RACE 9
October 2, 2006
Finally a race is not drenched in rain! 13 turned out to do
battle. Just one more race in the series remains.
RACE 8
September 10, 2006
Feature race cancelled due to rain. The race will be scored as a
drop race.
RACE 7
August 20, 2006
14 karts
turned out for the fight, ending with Ropke finishing first in
the feature, followed by Thomas, Hanisch, Wesell, Anthenson,
Kalish, Mente, Mussa, Skowron, Nix, Olson and Stagl. Mitz
suffered an electrical failure, and Sharp did not start the big
race. It's the dog days of summer, with competition heating up,
and the points race remains as close as ever, with any one of 8
racers numerically able to win the championship!
RACE 6
July 23, 2006
A perfect day for karting. The weather was spot on, the
track had good bite, and the racing was hot! The new starting
procedure, with new acceleration markers for the start, caused
some frustration in the heats, but settled out by the feature.
The race drew a large group of the season so far, with a total
of 12 karts. Hanisch continued his run of top finishes in the
feature, but not by a runaway. Ropke, Thomas, Mitz, and
Willmorth rounded out the top five, followed by Mente,
Bartels, Anthenson, Wirth, and Skinner in pursuit. Mussa broke
and Sharp was unable to take the green with a broken engine stop
bolt. Only 4 more races to go!
RACE 5
July 2, 2006
Hot and muggy was the weather. Hot and fun was the racing. This
was Jeff Hanisch's weekend, taking 1st in heat one and a second
in round two, putting him on pole for the feature. Skowron put
away outside pole for the feature, with Willmorth and Mitz in
row two. The feature started with excitement in row two,
as Willmorth and Mitz ran
side-by-side all the way to the hairpin, with Hanisch and
Skowron leading the way. Mitz went on a rabbit hunt, while
Wesell and Willmorth battled away for fourth, ending with Wesell
holding off a last ditch hale Mary pass attempt by Willmorth.
The finish saw Hanisch in first, his second for the season,
followed by Skowron, Mitz, Wesell, Willmorth, Nix, and Olsen.
Stagl made a showing for round one, taking the green before his
clutch went away.
RACE 4
June 20, 2006
Cancelled due to rain. One additional drop race will be used to
eliminate the lost race date.
RACE 3
June 3, 2006
The third race went well and was another great day. Mitz wins
the first race from pole, while Hanisch wins the second from
third on the grid. Thomas nails a pole for the feature by taking
two thirds in the heats. Hanish manages to bag a feature win
from a fifth place start, followed by Thomas, Skowron, Mitz, Mussa, and
Mente in close pursuit. Ropke, Anthenson, Stagl and Wirth closed
the gate. The competition was as close as ever, with less
than 4/10ths separating the majority of the field! Race one
winner Willmorth was a no show, as was race two winner Kalish.
RACE 2
May 21, 2006
The second race of the season was a beautiful day. A
cool breeze and sunny skies prevailed for most of the day, in
contrast to the wet weather the previous weekend. This was also
a race day with several back-stories. Wesell and
Hanisch. had their engines in song after sticking pistons last
weekend. Kalish made his first appearance of the season, picking up where he
left off last season with a win, followed by Mente and
Mitz in third - his best finish since returning after last
season's forced time off. 12 karts were on grid, inlcuding Ropke,
who manage to rebuild the top end of his Sonik between the heats
and feature. Behind Mitz, were Mussa, Hanisch, Ropke,
Skowron, Anthenson, Wesell, Willmorth, and Dave Wirth. Skowron
fought with with
a fussy battery all day. Willmorth managed to blow a good
starting position by spinning in lap 7 caused by a stuck
throttle cable. Thomas suffered an unfortunate failure before the start of the
feature and was forced to sit it out. Finally Stagl was at the
track, but worked to keep
his two boys in their own points battle, so never made a lap -
poor fellow.
RACE 1
May 7, 2006
The season opener was set off by beautiful day, in the mid
seventies and clear. The track was a little slick, having
suffered a rainout the previous weekend. 11 karts were signed up
at the beginning of the day. Unfortunately, 2 (Jeff W. and Jeff
H.) suffered stuck pistons in practice, so were unable to make
the grid for the heats. From the start of the heat races, it was
apparent that racing was going to be tight. Flag to flag, the
group stayed together throughout the heats. Racing was close,
passing tough, and the field finished very close together. A
rivalry that closed out the 2005 season between Willmorth and
Mente in 3rd and 4th, would carry into the first feature of
2006, where the two locked horns from the first turn taking the
1st and 2nd from their 2nd (M) and 4th (W) starting positions on
the grid, moving away from Skowron starting on pole, followed by
Mitz in close pursuit. Mente held off Willmorth for 7 laps -
before Willmorth made his move in the sweeper, taking first
position through the conclusion of the race. He was followed
closely by Mente, Mussa, Anthenson, Skowron, Thomas, Mitz, with
Stagl closing out the first race of the series. |
