Founded
in
2005, the TaG Masters Series has consistently drawn over 20 members! The racing
is excellent, and will continue for 2008.
If
you are old enough to remember Dance Fever, (over the age of 35) and
looking to compete head-to-head in a fast class, Badger is going to once
again be the
place to be in 2008! It’s time to put down the wrenches and get
into the action. No more bench racing, no more discussion board
speculating, it’s time to put on the skid suit, wrap up those ribs, and
cram that mid-drift bulge into some fiberglass. It’s time to go
TAG racing!
Just
what in the world is TAG? TAG stands for “Touch
And Go” meaning the karts are
equipped with 28-29 horsepower, electric start, single speed, centrifugal
clutch motors. Rather than detail this here, the complete TAG USA
Rules is available for free download at: http://www.tagracing.net.
This
is just like the thrilling days of SCCA Sports Car Racing, where cars from
all over the world went at each other head-to-head! TAG karts at
Badger are the second fastest senior level machines on the track.
With lap times between the high 37’s and mid 38’s, TAG racing is fast
and exciting. The lack of gearbox produces a machine that is clean
to drive, that rewards a smooth driving style. With every driver
free to combine his or her favorite motor and chassis, competition is
lively and interesting.
Chassis
choice is wide open. Converting a 32mm Shifter to TAG is
straightforward, as is swapping out an HPV motor on a solid 30mm or
30/32mm chassis. The class does not allow front brakes, and has no
gearbox, so adapting any good quality kart is as simple as bolting up the
engine package – with the usual mix of customizing and improvising the
small parts, that all karts require.
Think
about it. Nearly as fast as a shifter, faster than an HPV, the
lowest maintenance requirement of any competitive class, and electric
start to keep things rolling - even if you spin out during a race!
This
sets the stage for what could become the premier class for adult karting. The low maintenance demands and
electric start mean that even busy karting parents will be able to
participate. The performance of these machines provides
many seasons of exciting competition, even for seasoned veterans.
The strict rules against tuner trickery, and stable engine regulations,
means that any engine package will be viable for several seasons, reducing
the need to continuously replace and upgrade obsolete equipment.
Now,
with the TAG Masters Series in 2008, comprised of a more adult friendly
ten-race agenda, anyone whose contemplating getting into a faster kart,
that has resisted due to the time and effort required has no more excuses!
If you have been around long enough to know first-hand why disco is dead,
this is where you’ll want to be in 2008. If you were wondering
what you were going to do this winter - now you know - get ready to go TAG
Racing in 2008!
